Paris!
continued
Ok, there's loads and
loads more. I mean, I spent two weeks with nothing better to do
than walk and take pictures. And it was fabulous, I cannot
recommend it highly enough as a convaelescence. Of course ideally
I would have had staff to carry my shopping, but there you go.

| The mini Arc de Triomphe De Carrousel, if I've
spelled that correctly, in the Tuileries. The real one's about a
mile away. This one was surrounded by Americans saying, it's not
very big, is it? |
St Germain des Pres I spent a lot of time
here in the Cafe Bonaparte, from where this is taken. It's one of
the few places I found in Paris where you can actually sit outside at a
street cafe and have something other than traffic to look at. We
always picture life on the Continent as being very chic, but in fact it
is mostly just like sitting in a street cafe in London - noisy, dirty,
people pushing past with their carrier bags. |

| The Louvre and pyramid with amazing
walking-on-water illusion, which I haven't captured very well.
That's not a terrace these toruists are sitting on, it's the edge
of several pools. Had the most expensive glass of orange juice
ever in the nearby Cafe Marly. |
Another of my Renoir
outfits. The weather was was really hot, though it doesn't look
it. |

| Paris is full of excellent street names
- this is Rue Du Dragon, including a dragon sculpture. Of course,
when you've demolished all the poor people's houses to make way for a
glorious city celebrating yourself, you can call the streets what you
like. |
IThe fountains outside St
Sulpice. This was the Catholics' response to the reformation -
the biggest, most intimidating church they could come up with.
Inside, stupendous numbers of statues and candles, and humblingly
ancient people kneeling to pray. |

| The Tour Eiffel from the Tuileries. I kept getting surprising views of it unexpectedly - perhaps because it's so huge. | Me
at the Tower. Didn't go up - I've been, plus I hated it.
Also the stifling heat and three hour queue out me off a little.
So I walked along, looked at the Princess Diana death tunnel monument,
and went to find somewhere for lunch. |
