Ah! Newcastle! Party city! And so glamorous. This mainly Victorian city centre is pretending to be Georgian - and if it reminds you strongly of wonderful Georgian Bath, that's because most of Georgian Bath's city centre is actually Victorian too. The golden sandstone and non-classical column combinations take me back.....

The Monument. It's to Earl Grey -yes, the
Earl Grey - and like the Monument to the Great Fire in London, you can
climb up inside it and stand on the viewing platform at the top.
(You can just see the railings in this pciture). It's very
pretty at Christmas with sparkling lights running up all the fluting on
the sides. |
