| It
was amazingly windy at the
summit of the fortifications. This vast space is entirely inside
the castle's defences - the size of a large village. |
The
uncut section of the grass. |

The
corner tower of the castle. There was lots more to see but I
mainly concentrated on buying a cup of hot chocolate from the nice
English Heritage man and sheltering beside a well head to drink it,
because my ears had gone numb with cold. There were swallows
swooping up and down in between the stonework, which gave me something
to watch as I thawed out. This is July in Northumberland,
remember. |

| And
just to give you an idea of how far you have to walk from the
village.... |
You
can just make out the castle on the skyline. This is Craster -
where the pub has bank machines and the internet. |
